Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN, has reportedly pulled out of the Kebbi State governorship race.
The Minister is said to have used the “gesture” in preparation for his formal declaration to contest for Kebbi governor in 2023 under the platform of APC.In several social media posts by Nigerians in Kebbi State, the Minister was reported to have distributed 30 Mercedes Benz GLK, 20 Toyota Prado and other exotic vehicles to party executives and delegates.
A quick review by Intel Region into the prices of the cars seen in the picture shared places the value of the over 50 exotic cars at over N1,000,000,000 (N1billion), a value which is 10 times more than the huge N100millon APC presidential form.
One of the beneficiaries who spoke to DAILY NIGERIAN confirmed the distribution of vehicles. It was also gathered that the minister gave 14 Mercedes-Benz GLK to 14 social media influencers (or warriors) who are defending and promoting his gubernatorial ambition. The minister’s close associates was also said to have benefited from the the car gifts, with four getting a Lexus LX 570 each.
The over N1bn car gifts generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians with many wondering what his annual income looks like as a Minister of Justice for him to be able to have such amount of money to spare on a governorship ambition. Some also wondered if truly the government of President Buhari is fighting corruption as the heavy monetization of politics becomes more prevalent under the APC government.
How much was Malami’s salary and allowances as Attorney General of the Federation for 7years? How can he honestly afford to buy these luxury cars if he is not corrupt? And his Nephew is the Boss at EFCC. Nigeria is really a fantastically corrupt Nation,” a facebook user known as Christopher Nwachukwu commented.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) have placed the price for obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for governorship at N50 million. Although Malami has not declared formally, he is believed to be highly interested in becoming the next Kebbi State Governor.
The APC primaries for governorship is scheduled to hold on May 18, 2022 and aspirants are jostling to the get the ticket to become the flagbearer of the party.
