Nigerians have reacted to the viral report of the Anambra State Governor’s visit to the imprisoned leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday.

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo announced that he visited the IPOB leader in detention as part of his wider consultations with critical stakeholders of security in the South East.In his report, he explained that the IPOB leader was in a very high spirit and will be eager to broadcast to his followers in South East to maintain peace.
IPOB has been linked to several crimes in the South East before and after the re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya after jumping bail to travel abroad in 2017.
A Federal High Court in Abuja proscribed the organization and the government had since recognized the organization as a terrorist group.
However, Governor Soludo explained that his visit to the IPOB leader in detention is focused on restoring peace, security and prosperity in Anambra and South East.

In his report, he said; “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, yesterday, (Friday, 13th May, 2022) to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South East.
He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere. He expressed sadness over what he described as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home” perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.
He assured that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace. “Together, we shall restore peace, security and prosperity in Anambra and the Southeast. It is well indeed!”
Governor Soludo’s visit to the IPOB leader generated a lot of mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some commended the governor’s efforts at finding solutions to the security crisis battling the South East, some others wondered why a governor will make public his visitation to someone facing terrorism charges.
Aji Abusu wrote (via Twitter): “I like how you guys are giving Soludo kudos for visiting Nnamdi Kanu. Today, he is no longer a Sabo, zoo Governor, Otellectual, etc. I hope you guys also applaud him when he begins to clamp down on those doing sacrilegeous things in Anambra under the guise of freedom fighting
Uche P Okoye wrote (via Twitter): “IPOB was against the election that produced Soludo in Anambra state. Imagine for a second that there was a state of emergency as you wished and Mohammed from Katsina is the Military Gov. Who would have visited Nnamdi Kanu y’all are sharing his pictures?

El Amin Dahunsi wrote (via Twitter): “This alone confirms my fears; the people doing the killings and current disruption of peace in Anambra state don’t care about Kanu or whatever. Soludo’s visit won’t achieve any positive thing, rather he has portrayed himself as being sympathetic to terrorism course.
King Raji wrote (via Facebook): “Imagine if Shekau was captured and a Governor from the North visits him and say “I Visited Mallam Shekau” It’s finished!
